Taiwan-based Samwell Group has launched its RUGGEDBOOK SR800 a compact tablet PC that features four protective rubber bumpers and an integrated carry handle.

The SR800 measures 11.2 x 8.2 inches and is 2.4 inches thick which includes the large bumpers. It weighs just less than five pounds and the display measures 10.4 inches diagonally. It can be ordered with a standard display or a sunlight viewable screen.

For computing power, the SR800 uses the ultra low voltage Intel Core Duo U2500 CPU, running at 1.2GHz. The SR800 can be equipped with one or two GB of memory and the shock-mounted 2.5-inch hard disk comes in 120 or 160 GB capacity. A solid-state drive is also an available option.

The rugged tablet has high-speed USB 2.0 ports along with a mini-USB port, an RS232 serial port, gigabit RJ45 LAN, an RJ11 modem jack, audio in/out, and a multi I/O cradle connector. A PC Card Type II slot and a Compact Flash slot offer extra storage.

Control features include a five-way navigation diamond, a display rotation key, a WiFI/Bluetooth switch, a function hotkey, and ESC key, and the power button.

Samwell says its SR800 is ideal for field service, public safety, construction, logistics, law enforcement, military, social welfare, transportation, health care, and hospitality.
