11.20.09 Android Powered Vega Tablet PC To Show At CES 2010  By John VinsonWhile most of the world is clamoring over the ever present but still imaginary 'Apple iTablet', ICD has announced an actual product and is one that could be a game changer. The Tablet PC is simply called, Vega, and has turned the heads of many techno-geeks in cyberspace. The buzz surrounding Vega stems mostly from it's use of Android OS 2.0. The Google powered mobile OS still has much to prove, but due to it's open source capabilities, provides a lot of potential. Along with Android, Vega will use the highly anticipated NVIDIA Tegra. This mobile processor, like Android has a lot to prove in the real world. Up until now, only a couple of devices have used Tegra, but with it's capabilities provide a slew of features which weren't possible before. Here's a full list of specs for the upcoming Vega: OS: Android Eclair (2.0) Weight: < 1300g (various sizes) Size: 7, 11, and 15 inches Processor: NVIDIA Tegra Memory: 512 MB DDR DRAM Micro SD Expansions (supports up to 32GB) Bluetooth 2.1 audio Wireless 802.11 b/g Cellular option (3G compatible) Along with the technical specs, the Vega has some cool features which look to be quite intuitive. First is the magnetic docking station which will allow for hands free support when using it at home or somewhere stationary. Photos of the Vega being docked make it look like a picture frame. Like many 'notebooks', the Vega will have a 1.3 mega-pixel forward facing camera.
There is a whole lot to like about Vega, however it looks like the battery life will take quite a hit from the device's capabilities. ICD's fact sheet claims that a full battery charge will only allow four hours of usage, while requiring 2 hrs to charge. For those who are constantly on the go, this might be a deciding factor for a purchase. While we have a slew of information regarding Vega, the price label for the device remains a mystery. There have been a few debates as to whether or not the price tag will change drastically depending on which size you decide upon. Luckily, we don't have too much longer to wait as the product will have a full reveal at CES 2010 in Las Vegas, and more than likely, a release soon after. With the rumors of an iTablet, Microsoft's apparent Courier Tablet idea, and now IDC's Vega, it looks like 2010 could provide a huge year for Tablet PCs. The advancements provided by Vega will allow for more advanced gaming, video chat, and Web TV options according to IDC. If this proves to be true, then Tablet PCs will carve an even deeper niche in the computing device sector. CES 2010 will be the tale of the tape for Vega, and will either be a launch platform for an overpriced dud or an advanced tablet PC with a 'feel good' price.
