Apple Tablet PC Rumored To Appear In 2010

By Doug Caverly

Tablet PC fans may get a nod from a much-loved manufacturer in the relatively near future. According to fresh reports, Apple is working on a tablet PC in preparation for an unveiling and release next year.

AppleInsider's Katie Marsal writes that Gene Munster, a Piper Jaffray analyst, claimed, "[I]nvestments will likely culminate with the launch of a touch-screen tablet with a display somewhere between 7- and 10-inches at a special event sometime in the first half of 2010."

Marsal then continued, "Such a move . . . would be consistent with management's comments that [the] Cupertino-based company has no interest in catering to the existing segment for 'cheap' miniaturized notebooks and its spoken desire to differentiate in a market currently dominated by cramped computers with razor thin margins and a subpar user experience."

Apple's theoretical tablet PC is supposed to sell for a price of somewhere between $500 and $700 so that it could slot between the iPhone and the MacBook.

Interesting stuff, eh? Apple is famous for having an enthusiastic customer base, so the tablet PC might be a guaranteed hit. On the other hand, it's hard to say whether Apple's high-ish prices and focus on creativity will represent a great match to this market.
